Feisty Fawn is here! Here’s the Press Release.
The Release Notes contain things you should watch out for when installing or upgrading, including the most common installer bugs and other issues. Read it before you install or upgrade.
The 7.04 tour guides you through what’s new. Phil Bull’s 41-item list of what’s new in Feisty is an awesome collection of the new bling.
You can download Feisty by bittorrent, or you can download the cd images. Using bittorrent would be right thing to do.
Upgrading
If you are upgrading from Edgy, read the upgrade notes. Please note that the graphical method using the Update Manager is recommended over the command line method using APT. For 22x faster upgrades, read my earlier post 🙂
Thank you, Ubuntu developers, MOTUs, Documenters, Bug Fixers, Forum members, IRC chatters, and Ubuntu users. Let us not take predictable, regular, ultra-cool releases for granted. My heart is so big right now, it might just explode. Thank you for this release, and for the release from the mundane, the bloated, the untrustworthy, and the unstable!
nice trick to get faster upgrades XD thanks for that.
You’re welcome.
Great news.
The cool thing is that my update manager in not showing feisty jet, but I think it will in this very night when the ubuntu.com server load is a bit less overloaded.
Thank you for sharing this story with me !
I’d like some direct download mirrors.
Download Ubuntu 7.04 today is hard!
Hey Carthik,
Thanks for the mention, and thanks for the great blog!

my installation was an terrible failure… everything went fine… had 20 min left, then my computer overheated and turned off. i tried to reboot, but the graphics drivers could not be found, nor many other boot files…. i’m gonna have to wipe my precious 60 gig of data… sigh…
I’ve run ubuntu/Kubuntu 6.06 –> 6.10 on the same machine but never had as many upgrade problems as the 7.04 upgrade.
The download stalled so I tried the desktop CD, which only gave me an option to do a fresh install. Why? Didn’t have this problem upgrading from 6.06–> 6.10.
Next I tried the alternate CD which keeps looping after fetching 989/1158 files. I tested all CDs with the “test CD” option.
On restart, update manager prompts me to “dist-upgrade to 6.10” !
I’ve had enough of this crap I’ll try Sidux or wait for the new Kanotix.
I had the same problems but then I removed the cd and used the sudo apt – get upgrade. I suggest you do it without the cd.It took me three days to figure out what to do.It’s worth all the trouble.
won’t even install – the options to click on are off the bottom of the screen. Isn’t this an elementary bug?
[…] reasons. One year passed, I came back from Hyderabad and now Ubuntu released their latest version, Feisty Fawn. I got the CDs, and was ready to give a try. Unlike my first attempt, I created an ext3 partition […]
