Ubuntu’s New Website March 17, 2007

Ubuntu’s new website is the talk of the town.
Color me impressed!
To read more about the creation of the new design, visit Matt Nuzum’s article on the redesign of the website.
The decision was difficult. We finally chose Drupal. They have excellent documentation, the cms is easy to extend through modules, they have a responsive security team and it’s easy to learn to edit and add content…each server can now handling(sic) 5,000 to 6,000 simul connections.
Congrats to Matt, the sysadmins and Canonical for a job well done!
Also, interestingly enough, I found that ubuntusucks.com redirects one to ubuntu.com. Talk about pre-emptive measures!
Cool indeed! I wonder if this same will be reflected in the Feisty artwork. I like it that Ubuntu is coming out with its distinctive look, one that’s neither Mac or Windows or even Gnome.
True, Dominique – I think one of the boldest and most appealing decisions they ever took was to use shades of brown. It is lovely.
i’ve really liked the ubuntu’s new website, but that’s something wrong with the Planet Ubuntu RSS *2.0* syndication, and I guess Ubuntu News (http://www.ubuntu.com/news) also should to offer feeds.
hahah Pre-emptive indeed 😀
it’s about time Ubuntu got a makeover!!
wow
I must be in the minority of people that doesn’t like the new website =(
I mean there’s nothing outrageously _wrong_ with it, I just don’t like the way it looks, because I really liked the olde one. Sure, the navigation improvements are welcomed, but what happened to that lovely ubuntu banner and the nice tabs?
And I have a few wee gripes with things like the navbar, which is too small, in a far away corner and could be easier to use.
Plus…. *ahem*it doesn’t validate*ahem* not that i’m one to worry about such things 😉
PS The homepage banner reads “ubuntu LIVE” – is Ubuntu following Microsoft’s trend of sticking “LIVE!” on the end of everything?!
I think the “Live” refers to the conference in July.
I like the new layout – I’ve only been using Ubuntu for a couple of months, and I’ve found there’s loads of help out there, it’s trying to find it all that’s difficult! But I agree about the navbar – I didn’t notice it until I read Sean’s post!
Folks, you can file bugs against the website here:

I hope Kubuntu’s website will be redone as well… Ubuntu’s gets more and more professional and attractive… and Kubuntu’s is still the same teenager’s personnal website.

That is a nice new look.
I think it goes good with Ubuntu to have a new look to their site as their operating system gets larger and larger in popularity.
ya the site really looks cool and different
what else can you expect from Ubuntu the porterboy for linux
Very clean, cool =]
I DIG-IT. It’s nice different from most out there. It all fits in a browser nicely, and without the plain white backdrop.
It actually seems a lot easier to navigate now, to me!
Who the heck thinks M$ leads-the-way? You just can’t be for real.
Keep up the extraordinary work Uuntu and I’ll follow loyally!
