Do You Blog About Ubuntu? December 22, 2006

As I was surfing the ‘net earlier today, I realized that we all are missing out on a lot. There are a lot of small, unknown, unnoticed bloggers blogging about Ubuntu, and some of these posts are good, very good. The blog that I found with the post about Moms loving Ubuntu is another example. These are a pleasure to discover and read. Since these blogs are not on the planet, pretty much the only way to find them is through serendipity. Which brings us to the point of this post:

Do you blog about Ubuntu?
If you do, I personally would love to read what you write. Could you please write a post and pingback this post? In most blogging tools (at least in WordPress), just adding a link to this post will pingback the post.
If that is too much to ask, could you leave a comment? I thought pingbacks are easier that filling out that comment form. If you have an “Ubuntu” category I will subscribe to it in my feedreader.
With enough entries, I will create a page listing the blogs, which will be a useful resource to others and free publicity for your stunts!

I wonder what would be a good way to tap into that well of online knowledge about Ubuntu and present way in an useful and friendly way to the world? Maybe what we need is an userplanet.ubuntu.com or community.ubuntu.com to complement the more official planet.ubuntu.com that would aggregate these non-ubuntu-member blogs.
You can follow to the ubuntu tag in site like wordpress.com (http://wordpress.com/tag/ubuntu/), and I’m sure other blog sites have similar tags, but there are only small subsets of the Ubuntu blogging community.

I’ve blogged about Ubuntu, but I also talk a lot about it in a mailing list and use it in the office as well. The difference is that I talk to Deaf people.
My blogs about Ubuntu are via vlog’s – using BSL (British Sign Language) aimed toward a Deaf audience in the UK on my blog which are all vlog’s rather than a typed blog in English.

I don’t blog, but I write about Kubuntu for TUX (www.tuxmagazine.com) and ‘Beginners’ Linux’ for Micro Mart (www.micromart.co.uk). I get paid for both and the editors wouldn’t commission me unless their research showed people read it! The nice thing is both are aimed at ‘normal’ users, not nerds, IT graduates, techies just mainstream folk with an interest in computers.

Hey, I’ve starter a little something two weeks ago, for my friends and I. I do translate in English what is relevant to Ubuntu, not many entries so far. I questioned myself whether I would make that blog public or not, first time I am actually talking about it. I plan mostly to file tutorials when information is scattered or too complicated for beginners, and linux-women stuff 😉

I had the idea of creating a Planet for Ubuntu users, open to everyone who wrote quality post, and not just official ubuntu members.

I blogged today not about Ubuntu, but about the lack of Linux development tools for regular old web guys. Aptana, NVu, Quanta — they’re all nowhere compared to something like Dreamweaver. My wordpress blogging interface is frankly a better UI for web dev!

We’re definitely not an Ubuntu blog – but we’ve got quite a bit of eyeball recently for a project we’re looking to start – rolling out Ubuntu across South Africa’s medical hospitals, who are currently paralysed with old, non-functional windows machines… You’ll prob see a bit more coming on the medical software for linux, specifically ubuntu.

I sometimes blog about Ubuntu, just because my blog is about GNU/Linux and Ubuntu is the distribution that I use. Anyway I only write in Spanish, so I think that you won’t find it very useful.
