Re-do Ubuntu In Blue July 30, 2006

Since a one-off complaint about Ubuntu is it’s “brownness”, I thought I’d mention a couple of quick and easy ways to make your Ubuntu blue if you like your operating system to be blue. I, by the way, love Ubuntu’s brown theme – that was one thing that really made an impression on me the first time – I mean, everything else is blue, so a change was refreshing to me.
For this post, I don’t have to do much work. A couple of folks have made it a lot easier for me, and I don’t see the point in rewriting the already excellent descriptions.
So let’s get down to converting Ubuntu to blue, shall we?:
Teenage Tantrum’s guide is very comprehensive and covers all bases. He even mentions the Blubuntu Ubuntu Artwork project which seems to suggest that a “unified” blubuntu theme will be available to users after August 12th.
Brent Roos’ Prescription includes a GTK theme, a metacity theme and an Icon theme with detailed instructions on how to get and install them. Note: The tango icon theme is very blue and in my opinion, very pretty. You might want to keep that as an option for the icons.
I haven’t had any customization or style guides posted here so far since I think it is all a matter of personal taste. I use a brown + graphite theme on both my computers and am happy with it. If you like screenshots and would like me to feature cool “looks” let me know, and I will try my best.
Ubuntu Blog 
If blue is really your thing, perhaps Kubuntu would be to your liking. I have always preferred KDE to Gnome and Kubuntu has a lovely BLUE heavy default theme for KDE.
As I said, whatever floats your boat is good enough. As you have said before, it’s all about the freedom of choice.
I agree that the Tango icon theme is pretty. I just like the new Human look, and in this case, it is blue instead of orange. Another one of my favorite icon packages is Dropline Etiquette. This is what I was previously using.
It’s all a matter of personal preference. I am happy to share with the world, what I consider to be cool. To me, that is a huge part of blogging anyway.

Is that considered plagerism when someone copies exactly what you wrote without giving the original author credit?
I liked the brown, It gives Ubuntu an unique look.
Heck, I even installed the Ubuntu theme in Firefox, just so it’d match.

The problem that I saw, is that he didn’t even link back to you. I would have to consider that plagiarism, if he is not going to credit you for the actual authoring. He acted as if he wrote it.

I recall reading here a while back about repeat bloggers. I hate that too. There are about 200 million blogs like that on the Internet. What good does it do to repeat someone else’s work? It’s called making a link, and perhaps adding some perspective, or something.
Anyway, I thought that you might want to know. Oddly enough, he still had the links to teen, and myself, because he didn’t change a thing from the post!
