Download and Install the Ubuntu Title Font July 12, 2006

Posted by Carthik in snippets, ubuntu.

I found a precious little gem quite by accident when I was using Synaptic (the package installer) today.

The package ttf-ubuntu-title consists of the font used by Ubuntu’s logo, you know, the familiar font used for the letters below:
Ubuntu Logo

So, a
$sudo apt-get install ttf-ubuntu-title
will install the font and make it available to GIMP, OpenOffice and everywhere else that you can use fonts.

If you only want the font, to install it on another OS or such, you can get it here. The font is an OpenType Font, which installs just like a TrueType font. The font is licensed using the LGPL, for those of you who wish to know.

I must say the font is very nice, easy on the eyes, readable and suitable for titles.

The direct URL to the font is wrong… should end with “.ttf”, not “.otf”.

@Juan Ceballos

I find that I like this font very much, but in OpenOffice 2.0.2 in Ubuntu Dapper Drake, one cannot use the Shift key to cap or Caps Lock – it just won’t cap! But as soon as I switch the font to something else, it will. Do others have this problem?

14. Marcus - February 3, 2007

the Ubuntu font is a lower case font only.

If you double click the otf file and check the samples, the Upper and Lower case font characters are the same.

For some reason I can’t use this font for window titles. I can use it for anything else, and I can use other fonts for window titles, so what’s going on?

Found it, install it and using it too. It looks nice, definitely the Ubuntu font is one of the nicer fonts around, too bad it doesnt comes with Caps!
