Flash not displaying text properly on Ubuntu? September 17, 2005

The solution is to install gsfonts-x11 and msttcorefonts by doing:
$ sudo apt-get install gsfonts-x11 msttcorefonts

The former allows the X server to use the Ghostscript fonts to display text on your screen and the latter installs some common, even essential, Microsoft core fonts, like Verdana.

This should lead to a smooter experience on flash.

What do you lose by doing this? Nothing. You lose a little clarity if you don’t install these, so do it 🙂

I dont know whether this problem concerns my installation or no – but on my Hoary installation, I used to experience a bit weir/d fonts in FF after installing msttcorefonts.

BTW do you still have a WP /invitation ?

Ankit, that is certainly strange. For me, it was an improvement if anything.

I am out of invites now. I will let you know if I get more, though.

Is there anyway to install ms core fonts on breezy yet?

Hm, I have no fonts in the flash menus and such.. (when i right click on a flash)..
Result = I’m not able to read certain webpages with flash because there are nothing where the fonts should be 😐

I haven’t been able to use some flash applications in a while due to the fact the text did not show.

Thanks for posting this!
